During the Ottoman period, the tradition of "Külliye" extended to include libraries, which began serving the highest level of education provided by madrasas (Islamic schools) and hospitals. In this context, the libraries in Konya, Bursa, and later Istanbul became centers of knowledge housing the treasures of learning from around the world.

The foundation of our university dates back to 1883 with the establishment of Hamidiye Trade School, which forms the cornerstone of our institution. With nearly a century and a half of educational experience, our university houses a valuable collection of rare books, transferred from the Trade School and the previous name, the Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences. As stated in our mission, our university not only boasts a rich educational history but also a profound library experience.

Today, we continue this deep-rooted tradition of librarianship, integrating modern technological elements into our library services to present a distinctive library model. Our Central Library and the main collection at the Göztepe Campus' Prof. Dr. Orhan Oğuz Library exemplify this commitment. Additionally, libraries are available across all our campuses and complexes. As a "Research University," our institution supports academic research and the advancement of science through comprehensive resources, fostering a peaceful environment conducive to our students' studies.

Our libraries, as mentioned above, house an ancient collection of rare works and also provide services to researchers and students through digital databases, the contemporary method of knowledge dissemination. With close to 50,000 rare works, approximately 300,000 printed books, and nearly 300,000 digital books and journals, along with search tools, our libraries operate on a 24/7 basis.

Our belief and philosophy are rooted in the idea that knowledge grows and serves humanity when shared. We take great pride and joy in providing information services to our academic and administrative staff, as well as to our students, whom we entrust with the future of our country.

Always aspiring to serve those seeking knowledge and information...
